What is LuxArchival® sanded art paper?

LuxArchival is a durable sanded art surface developed specifically for colored pencil. Its textured coating accepts extensive layering, blending, lifting, and many liquid-assisted or mixed-media techniques that are difficult to use on conventional drawing paper.

What is the difference between 400 grit and 600 grit?

LuxArchival 400 has a more pronounced tooth and accepts pigment quickly. It is well suited to artists who prefer a stronger textured surface and substantial layering.

LuxArchival 600 has a finer, less aggressive tooth. It offers greater control for detailed work while still accepting many layers of colored pencil and other compatible media.

Can I use liquids on LuxArchival?

LuxArchival is designed to tolerate water, odorless mineral spirits, alcohol-based blending methods, fixatives, and other techniques commonly used with colored pencil. Because art materials vary, test unfamiliar products and combinations on a small sample before using them on finished artwork.

Can colored pencil be erased or lifted from LuxArchival?

Yes. Colored pencil can often be lifted, adjusted, or partially erased from LuxArchival, especially before the artwork is sealed with fixative. Results depend on the pencil brand, pressure, number of layers, and any liquids or fixatives already applied.

Can LuxArchival be used with media other than colored pencil?

Yes. Artists use LuxArchival with colored pencil, watercolor pencil, watercolor, ink, graphite, pastel, and selected mixed-media techniques. Compatibility varies by product, so testing is recommended.

How many layers can LuxArchival accept?

The surface is designed for extensive layering and generally accepts substantially more colored pencil than ordinary drawing paper. The exact number of layers depends on the pressure, pencil formulation, blending method, and use of fixative between layers.
